Young man arrested for attempted murder over a hat
WINDHOEK, 11 AUG (NAMPA) Ė A 20-year-old learner of the Ombuga Combined School in the Omusati Region was arrested on Friday on charges of attempted murder after he allegedly shot someone.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region, Lineekela Shikongo told Nampa Friday the incident occurred at the Ombuga Yamunyoko village on Thursday.
It is alleged that the suspect and a 23-year-old man were arguing over a hat when the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in both legs and on the left shoulder.
The suspect fled the scene.
According to the police, the shotgun used in the incident belongs to the suspectís uncle.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrateís Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, in the Oshikoto Region on Thursday, a member of NamPolís VIP unit reportedly ran over and killed 22-year-old Kefas Kalifeni Sakaria, who was cycling.
According to the daily crime report issued by NamPol on Friday, the incident occurred on the Omuthiya-Ondangwa main road at around 18h00.
A male passenger who was in the government-registered vehicle sustained head injuries and was taken to the Omuthiya District Hospital, while Sakariaís body was taken to the Omuthiya mortuary.
His next of kin have been informed.
In an unrelated matter, an 18-year-old girlís body was found hanging from a tree at the Okakodhi village in the Oshikoto Region on Thursday after she was reported missing last week.
The deceased, who has been identified as Saima Ngala Mateus, allegedly committed suicide near her homestead.
No suicide note was left behind and the next of kin have been informed.
In a separate matter, 82-year-old Wouter de Vos Moolman shot himself with a rifle on Thursday at Farm Durugaus in the Rehoboth district.
The deceasedís body was found at around 08h00.
Two suicide notes were reportedly found.
Police investigations continue.
