Embrace ICT as economic driver: Tweya
WINDHOEK, 11 AUG (NAMPA) – Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Tjekero Tweya has called on Namibians to appreciate and embrace ICT as it is one of the drivers for economic development.
Tweya made these remarks during the official launch of the fourth National ICT Summit website held in the capital on Friday.
“ICT plays a vital role in any society thus we, as Government must ensure that we keep abreast with technological developments and trends,” Tweya added.
Namibia has grown in leaps and bounds during the past few years and was recently rated as one of the most dynamic countries in Africa by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Measuring Society Report 2016.
The national summit creates a platform for the ICT industry to discuss trends, opportunities, innovations and challenges facing the industry locally and globally.
Furthermore, it also brings together players in the ICT industry to exhibit and showcase the latest trends in information and communication technology.
The ICT summit will be held from 09 to 11 October 2017 at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM) headquarters under the theme “Leveraging ICT to unlock Economic Opportunities for an Inclusive Society”.
Tweya noted that this year’s theme aims at optimally using ICT to achieve the country’s goals and vision as stipulated in national documents.
“Activities for this year’s summit will also be dedicated to the youth to exhibit and showcase their talents and innovative ideas.”
