City Police arrest members of 'Golgota gang'

WINDHOEK, 18 MAY (NAMPA) - The City Police have arrested three men whom they suspect of being part of the ‘Golgota gang’ known for robberies and theft of out motor vehicles around Windhoek.
They were arrested on Thursday.
During a media briefing, City Police Chief Abraham Kanime said they are hard at work rounding up gang members from three different gangs in the capital who have for the past three weeks committed robberies and thefts out of motor vehicles in the city.
He added that two of the groups work closely together and most of the robberies involve grey, red and white Polo sedans and a Toyota Etios.
Kanime said the red Polo was used in a robbery that involved a student from the Namibia University of Science and Technology Wednesday night and in a robbery in Hochland Park the same day.
They mostly target areas such as Rocky Crest, Pionierspark, Academia, Hochland Park, Dorado Park and Windhoek West.
“Yesterday we managed to get the two cars, the grey Polo and the red Polo. Last night they robbed someone else and we chased them up to Single Quarters and there we had a shoot. They tried to run away but we managed to arrest them all,” he said.
Kanime added that the City Police have arrested the head of the group who has 13 cases currently pending.
He was convicted on one of the cases, and was out on bail for the other 12 cases.
Kanime could not disclose their names as they are only due to appear in court on Friday.
“These are the dangerous guys, they are really chance takers. Some of them are involved in bank card snatching,” Kanime noted.
He said one of the suspects is still on the run with the Toyota Etios.
“It is just a matter of time before we apprehend him too,” he said.
