Grootfontein police officer appears in court for shooting inmates

OTJIWARONGO, 22 JUN (NAMPA) – A police officer on Friday appeared in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court for allegedly opening fire and wounding a senior colleague and two trial-awaiting inmates at the town’s holding cells on Wednesday.
Constable Cornelius Hamutenya, 22, appeared on three counts of attempted murder.
He was granted bail of N.dollars 3 000 and his case was postponed to 30 August 2018 for further police investigations.

Mujoro appointed new ECN boss

WINDHOEK, 22 JUN (NAMPA) – The Director of Operations at the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), Theophilus Mujoro has been appointed as new Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer with effect from 01 September 2018, the ECN has announced.
This position was previously known as Director of Elections.
Mujoro is taking over from Professor Paul Isaak, whose five-year term as Director of Elections ends on 31 August this year.
